They’re Baaaaack!!: In Living Color Returning to TV

By Matt Sheiner

The Wayans are coming back to the small screen. “In Living Color” is reappearing on the Fox network on its upcoming anniversary with two all new episodes. They are leaving the door open for reviving the series based on the success of the those two installments.

Now if you aren’t familiar with the wildly popular variety show, you don’t know what you’re missing. “In Living Color” jump started the careers for superstars like Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, and every Wayans born before 1980. Let’s not forget the fly girl herself, J-LO, who was just a backup dancer on the show, before becoming the now thrice divorced mega star.

The show itself was simply hilarious, highlighted by some awesome skits! “Fire Marshall Bill”, featuring a very young Jim Carrey, was my personal favorite. When he let out a” LET ME TELL YOU SOMTHIN’” he was by far the most dangerous man with a badge. He would find himself in precarious situations trying to teach safety to others, and just ended up hurting himself in eccentric ways. There was “Hey Mon” a spoof on Jamaican families starring Damon Wayans. The joke was about how hard-working Jamaicans were with the punch always playing on the number of jobs one of the characters had – ” Only tree jobs? Lazy boi!” – hilarious stuff. “Homey the Clown” was funny as hell too. Also starring Damon, it was about a rough clown from the hood who would show up at kids parties unwilling to be kid friendly. “Homey don’t play dat” was his standard catch phrase. There were a number of other skits that made this one of the funniest shows ever, including “Men on Film”, the classic featuring two gay film critics played by Wayans and David Alan Grier. I can’t even begin to do the show justice here, but in my opinion, the show was funnier than SNL during that time period. There, I said it. Mad about it? Oh well “let me tell you somthin’,” “homey don’t play dat”!
