West Virginia to the Big 12 a Done Deal?

By Jeremy Sickel

On Friday, the Big 12 Conference announced West Virginia as its 10th member heading into the 2012-13 season. Not a shock, with similar reports surfacing earlier in the week that West Virginia was tabbed as Missouri’s replacement as the conference attempts to react to the realignment bug that seem to be sweeping the nation.

The Big 12 seemed to give Mizzou the “I’m firing you before you can quit” mantra by leaving them off the list of schools that would be affiliated with the conference beginning next year. After it was said that the delay in offering the spot to WVU was due to hard lobbying from conference brass to get a change of heart from Missouri, it seems they have lost hope and are being proactive in this situation unlike that with Texas A&M, who also decided to bolt the Big 12 for “greener” pastures.

Not sure if this was the last straw, but last night an SEC website inadvertently posted an announcement welcoming Mizzou as its 14th member but quickly took it down citing an error with the web vendor and that the SEC does, in fact, not have an agreement with school at this time. Either way the Big East is bare, the Big 12 holds firm and Mizzou needs a place to call home apparently.
